The Beachcombing lesson aims to increase student’s skills of observation, demonstrate to students the interrelationship of different environments and habitats and develop a greater understanding of and interest in the local environment.
Students are introduced to examples of likely seeds, fruit, shells and other likely animal remains using real specimens and a photographic checklist. They are then taken to the beach to find as many as possible, after being advised of the safety/hazards aspect.
A detailed lesson plan is available if being led by visiting teachers. Pre visit sheets are available on website to familiarise students with possible finds. It can be used in conjunction with the Pollution Trail activity, e.g. Beach Combing on the walk to Richters Creek and Pollution Trail on the return.
