As you walk along the beach there are many things you normally would not notice. This activity is to make you look more carefully at the natural environment and to understand it.
Students walk along the beach checking out the flotsam on the beach near the high water mark. When they find an example of flotsam on their worksheets they add it to their collection.
Students discuss what they have found so far. They leave the collected items there before returning to camp.
On the way back, students try to locate the items not already found. The student are shown an example of each specimen before leaving the centre. A beachcombing identification chart is given to each student/group of students.
